Little things I love
The time is 11:04 pm and I am watching one of my favorite comfort movies: Shall We Dance? In one of my blogs, you will read about how I enjoy this movie a lot. Let me know if you all want me to make a blog about the movie and my thoughts on it. I know that is has been a while since I posted anything, but I was dealing with some family/friends stuff. You know how it be. Yet, here I am now typing away on my computer excited to talk about today's topic.
Have you ever stopped to look at the little things in life?
Have you ever appreciated things that are mundane?
I read this article once that as humans we must learn to appreciate the most random little things that may not seem as important. And for this blog...I wanted to share with you some of the little things I love and why. Tip: You should take some time out of your day to try this practice out because it makes life a little bit more warm.
Let's start.
1. When someone does their skincare in the mirror: As I grew up, my mom used to always do her skincare routine in the mirror of our bathroom. She would buy the best skincare products like Dior, Chanel, and even La Mer. She cared about her fine lines and wrinkles so much that she made an effort to do her skin care every night. I love seeing people get excited about applying their favorite creams, acne treatments, and even rose water sprays. It reminds me of how they care about their appearance which is a beautiful thing. It is a way of telling your skin "I love you and I see you." Even when they put on a pimple patch or sleep with a face mask on. I think it is so lovely to see how people care for their skin which shows appreciation. When I do my skincare, I take my time to make sure my skin feels noticed and it always feels like getting a mini facial.
2. When I hear a little child laugh so loud: This just makes my heart melt. I believe that there is a beauty in the way kids enjoy simple things. When you make a child laugh, oh my god it just brings so much happiness in the world. How they laugh with their small tummy, their rosy faces light up, and their teeth show how many times the tooth fairy visited. I remember my mom had a video of me when I was 6 years old laughing so loud she said I sounded like Boo from Monsters Inc. Also, Boo was so cute. I love also when they laugh about the most ridiculous things like when they see a caterpillar moving around. When they are on the swings and want to go higher. Or when they see a dog trying to catch their tail. Their laugh reminds me about how life can be enjoyable if we are patient enough to experience it.
3. Seeing wildflowers grow in random places: In my house that I grew up in, when I was 10, there were these purple flowers that used to grow on my metal fence. They were bright purple and had a white center. They sprouted every spring and so many would grow that I enjoyed collecting them for my flower book I had. You know the one where you press flowers in a journal? I like seeing flowers grow in alleys, alongside a city skyscraper, or even around a fire hydrant. I think it's because I find it to be a bit whimsical like if a fairy planted them. I don't know it gives me peace seeing that plants can just be themselves in any place they decide is best. They get to have a say in where they feel appreciated so I guess when you see them somewhere, wish them the best.
4. Watching a squirrel run with their acorn: Look...they are just walking through the neighborhood with their food in hand. Okay? My advice for all you pick up truck drivers is maybe let them cross the road with their food, squirrel needs to just feed the fam. So have some common decency and leave them be. I love seeing how they provide for their family and how much they love the good crunch of an acorn. Also, I like seeing them walk with their friends too. Sometimes animals just need to go for a walk. Like my fellow pal Mr. Whiskers who enjoys a good walk also.
5. Old couples dancing in a park while a guitarist is playing: Can you just imagine how lovely it is to see a couple waltzing about the park remembering all the good years they spent being together? I love how couples that are older in age dance with each other to feel alive again. They don't care if it is a guitarist of a saxophonist, but they let the music guide them back to a time they were young again. I have always wanted to do that and hopefully I can. I like when they smile at each other as they talk about the times they were vacating in their 20's, or when they mess up the steps of the dance as they give a giggle. So, if you ever see an old couple dance, tell them they look happy...because they are.
6. When a vinyl record has scratches: Hear me out, I like when the vinyl has scratches because it makes me feel that they have a story as to why they are that way. Like think about it. Somebody probably loved the record so much that they had no other choice but to play it countless times. I find good records have scratches which just means they had a loving back story. Think about this: you probably have a vinyl that once belonged to a loving couple in which that vinyl had their wedding song. I think that is something so cool and interesting to think about. So, I would buy the vinyl despite the scratches it has. Your favorite song is on there!
7. A candle that has been lit before many times: This one is simple. I love when a candle has been used so many times that you almost see that it is on its last layer of wax. If you are thrifting and find a candle like this, buy it. Just buy it. So that the candle doesn't feel like it has no value. It does.
8. Lastly, when you have your favorite song on repeat: People sometimes want to shame you because you keep listening to the same song over and over. Let me be the one to say that I do not care Mary Anne. I like the song and it is fun to listen to. People connect with whatever song they want to listen to. And when they listen to it on repeat, it is more about the fact that the song speaks to them. At one point, I kept listening to Chemicals React by Aly & Aj...and I still do. I don't know how many times I have listened to that song, but who knows?
well, I know each and everyone has one of these little things that they love. I would also like to list a couple more things that did not make the cut:
- when ice cream leaks from a cone
- cloud watching
- paint getting on my hands that make me look more artsy
- eating a donut and a coffee in the morning (it just hits)
- seeing a plant sunbathe
- laying under your warm laundry after it came out from the dryer
- seeing a field of sunflowers
- jump roping with the cousins
etc.....
Yours Truly,
Ms. Kitty
